When in Rome you are sure to find yourself strolling through the inside streets to avoid the crowds, the tangerine walls and cobbled alleys have a lovely relaxed summer feeling. The orange tones compliment the vibrant festival collection perfectly. I particularly like the tassel detail on this bangle. It allows you to subtly channel boho-chic without the over the top accessorising.
Chasing the sun is in my daily routine regardless of what country I am in, I always walk on the sunny side of the pavement. In Rome we were lucky enough to see the sun set behind the colosseum every evening from the rooftop of our Air BnB; the golden hour truly is my favourite time of the day. It makes everything look whimsical. Off shoulder tops are perfect for summer and work so well when layering necklaces. This Fatima hand necklace is one of my favourites it complements the turquoise stones in the hand chain. I am drawn to delicate pieces like this hand chain, the fine detail catches the sunlight beautifully and sparkles when worn.
On our second day of exploring Rome we visited the Capitoline Hill, the smallest of Rome’s seven hills. It is a monumental area dedicated to the 16th century history of Rome. It houses grand sculptures, busts and the museums on either side of the square. I would definitely recommend climbing the stairs to the observation deck to see some fantastic views of the city. I kept my clothing palette neutral for Rome, I paired the casual look with statement pieces like this three stone necklace and hammered square cuff.
After visiting the Capitoline Hill we moved on to Piazza Venezia, it is within walking distance and is dominated by the Momument to Vittaio Emanuele 11. This building represents the unification of Italy in 1870, it was originally built with the purpose of portraying positive imagery and represented freedom. Construction was halted during the first world war and continued after. Due to Italy’s loss during the war, this building is now a tribute to the fallen soldiers. If you can I would recommend a day and night visit, the building looks fantastic under the city sunset and the square is illuminated at night time with a vibrant atmosphere.
On our way to a pizzeria one afternoon we spotted this beautiful pastel doorway. I have an obsession with doors and since the birth of Instagram I see I am not alone. The framework, detail and workmanship behind doors amazes me. The colours complimented my dress beautifully and I’m never one to turn down a photo opportunity so we started shooting. In my eyes gold compliments every colour, it reflects a lovely warmth and highlights skin tones; A statement I have said many times before but I feel these set of pictures show the metals true beauty. I actually wore roman style sandals but being in Rome I soon realised it was a step too far and I felt like I had popped out of theatrical performance. I successfully hid them in every picture.
After lunch we visited the Vatican City it was by far the busiest tourist attraction I have ever visited; but well worth waiting in ques for. First up was St. Peter’s Basilica, a mind blowing visual delight. Far too much to take in at one glace. The church has beautiful detail in every square inch! Going through St Peters Basilica was a very tranquil experience, the grandness of everything from statues, window frames to the smallest objects like candleholders were stunning to look at. It made me feel quite small, in a good way, in a grounded way. Definitely a moment of self-reflection in a spiritual place. Close by are the Vatican museums, home to the Sistine chapel where many of us will recognise Michelangelo’s painting of the creation of Adam. Every single corridor in the museums were jaw dropingly beautiful. A must see if you are in Rome.
To unwind in the busy city we retreated to our Air b&b, laying in the sun shining through the window was just what the doctor ordered. On our last evening in Rome I wore this Ikat maxi teamed with my most treasured piece from Ottoman Hands, the mother of pearl necklace. It is the most versatile piece I own.
